Sasso dei Lupi winery was born out of the decade-long experience of one of the most important winegrowers’ cooperatives of the Umbria region: Cantina Sociale Colli Perugini.
From 1967 on, the cooperative gradually expanded to include over one thousand members and became one of the region’s largest wineries.
In those years, the market required big volumes of wine sold by measure that was bottled and distributed in Italy and abroad.
In the past ten years, Colli Perugini has offered an increasing range of bottled wines to satisfy the requests of a quality-oriented market to the disadvantage of mass-production wineries.
It was thus essential to develop new production structures to remain competitive and go on pursuing the quality that had always distinguished the winery’s activity.
Therefore, among the priority goals of the new Board of Directors was to provide concrete solutions to the Marsciano winery’s needs, which involved, first of all, the study of the excellence models in the world of winegrowers’ cooperatives, in particular, those of the Trentino Alto Adige and Valle d’Aosta regions, benchmarks in the Italian winegrowing field.
Then, the decision was made to radically change the organizational, management, production, sales and marketing structures, which led to the re-founding of the winery under the new brand name Sasso dei Lupi.
In September 2008, the company meeting of Cantina Sociale Colli Perugini was held for the last time to sanction the end of the historic winery’s activity and announce the birth of Società Cooperativa Agricola Sasso dei Lupi.
It was much more than a marketing operation, much more than a change in the labels’ look.
The new company is guided by a strong innovating spirit and by the will to make progress and respect the values our land is built upon and known for.
